PRIVATE IN-HOME SESSIONS or a BOARD & TRAIN PROGRAM
For Behavior Problem Help, First Command Obedience, Good Manners, Treadmill Training & All Other Training
What’s the difference between Private In-Home Sessions and Board & Train Programs? The difference is price, who does the initial legwork and where the initial conditioning & training takes place. Private In-Home Sessions require you, the Dog Owner, to be the one that does the legwork and the post-session follow up work with your dog(s). We come to your home, show you your dog can behave the way you want him/her to and then walk you thoroughly through how to get the results you want with NO YELLING, NO VIOLENCE & NO TREAT BRIBES!
Best Friends Canine Services’ In-Home Sessions consist of, first, a free ½ hour consult over the phone for Clients more than 15 or more miles away from Uniontown, Ohio or in person for Clients less than 15 miles away, with Dog Behaviorist & Trainer, Melanie Blair. If the prospective Client likes what they hear and see during their free 1/2 hour consult, a one and a half hour paid session is scheduled or directly follows at the Client's home and/or at the place where the Client may be experiencing problems for the flat rate of $120.00. There is a trip fee for Clients who live more than 15 miles away from our Behaviorist & Trainer of $1.00 per additional mile. For example, for a Client who lives 18 miles away, the trip fee would be $3.00. During the session the Client is comprehensively shown what to do to accomplis all of their training goals for their dog(s). Methods, techniques and the psychology behind the practices are thoroughly demonstrated and explained in order to effectively correct behavior problems and gain respect and consistent obedience and good manners. At the session’s close, the Client is left with detailed post-session guidelines including a list of “Do’s and Don’ts” and “Always and Nevers” to be consistently practiced and implemented. Also, at no additional charge, the Client can call, text or email Melanie for guidance as they consistently implement their dog's training program. We don't believe in stringing our Clients along $$$$$$$$$. We teach YOU to do what WE do so you won't need to keep reaching for your wallet! ARF!
There are many dog trainers and dog behaviorists out there who are really good at what they do but there are also many who are not. We have received numerous calls from household dog owners who were drawn into repetitiou$, recurring in-home dog training sessions or external group classe$ with less than satisfactory results. Many of these people are even given fancy ‘certificates’ that state their dog passed with flying colors or their dog earned a ‘good citizenship’ award, ‘top dog’ in obedience class, etc., yet they reported little improvement in their dog who received such an impressive certificate when they were really after impressive improvement and keep the certificate! Unfortunately, there are individuals and entities out there that are merely teaching dogs verbs and commands during classes and sessions but then the owners don’t get the same results consistently (or at all) at home one on one with their dogs. Moreover, many of these canine students with behavior issues continue to have them. Time after time, we've been called by frustrated dog owners who have given their time and money to minimally effective in-home training sessions or group classes. They often report how excellent their dog did, how obedient, during classes or sessions but how unsatisfactory they did after the trainer left or when coming home from group class. Melanie often lightheartedly explains, “That’s because a straight 'A' student can still be unruly at home or outside of class and even get in trouble with the law. Think of human children who behave one way with Mom, another way with Teacher and still another way with Grandma. But if Mom, Teacher and Grandma all get on the same page with the same rules, boundaries and limitations, what goes and what doesn’t go, what is rewarded and what is not, then the gig is up! All three eventually get the same behavior out of the child. The same goes with dogs. All too often masses of obedience classes and in-home training sessions offered to dog owners merely teach verbal commands and the actions they mean to dogs instead of also teaching 24-7 respect for their owner. This typically results in outstanding behavior and obedience during the session and then not so great behavior and obedience when the dog is one on one with his or her owner again. Dog behaviorists and trainers are only as good as they are able to achieve successful results with a dog and, just as importantly, as they are able to teach the dog’s owner(s) how to get the same respect and consistent, successful results.” That’s what Melanie does without $tringing dog owners along via multiple $ession after $ession after $ession after $ession, and that’s why she stands ready to allow potential Clients to first evaluate her methods and philosophies during a free ½ hour phone or in-home consultation. If you aren’t completely convinced she is the best fit for you and your dog by the close of the ½ hour consult there is no obligation, no hard feelings and no charge. It’s that simple.
The BOARD & TRAIN PROGRAMS of Best Friends Canine Services are for Dog Owners who, due to personal preference or time constraints, prefer to send their dog to a Board & Train Program so they can simply be shown how to keep all the good behaviors, obedience, manners and more their dog learns in place. The Board & Train route consists of the free ½ hour consult and, if the Client likes what is heard and seen, their dog (or dogs if they have more than 1 household dog they wish to be trained) is scheduled for the selected program, as described and priced below. During their stay, dogs learn to walk properly and mannerly on leash, they learn to be reliably obedient, mindful, balanced, social, mannerly and respectful on and off leash. They learn to use a treadmill so their owners can see to their exercise every day, year round, rain or snow, subzero temperatures or scorching temperatures. Canine Students are desensitized to the sounds of thunder, fireworks, sirens, animal noises of all kinds, construction equipment, horns, gunfire, crowd noises, etc. They, if applicable, they also learn to overcome any mild to severe behavior problems and issues they may have. Clients receive written initial assessments and evaluations on their dog(s) after a few days, at mid-term and on the last day of the program. On the day before their dog(s) come home to them, Clients receive extensive, detailed homecoming instructions for keeping all of their dog's new behaviors and manners intact. This is an extremely important part of the program, therefore, included in the price is a required 2-hour return home session where owners are shown everything their dog has learned and during which owners (and other members of their household or frequent guests) will learn exactly what to do in order to keep everything their dog(s) learned in place. Again, we use NO YELLING, NO VIOLENCE & NO TREAT BRIBES!
Board & Train Programs are a training option that more and more family Dog Owners are opting for when their schedules are so hectic or busy that they prefer someone else do all the initial legwork for them so that all they need to do is keep what their dog learned in place. Many families choose to coincide a Board & Train Program with their vacation as an efficient way to get training for their dog(s) during a time they needed to have them boarded anyway.
Best Friend’s Canine Services offers two Board & Train Programs (detailed and priced below) on a limited basis. What are the limits? Only six Client dogs maximum are boarded (Regular Boarders and/or Program 1 Board & Trainers) at any given time at the private residence of Dog Behaviorist & Trainer Melanie Blair, along with her personally owned '4-pack' of balanced dogs. When a Program 2 Board & Train Canine Student is booked, NO other Program 2 dogs are booked during that same time.
All Boarders and Students stay at Melanie's private residence and not in a kennel or training facility. Why? Because Mel believes in residential conditioning and training for residential dogs. She feels that household and family dogs should be conditioned and trained as they live, play, eat and sleep in a genuine residential environment because 'that's' what they'll be returning home to. Canine students are conditioned & trained to be respectful, mannerly, obedient, calm, non-destructive pets that live, eat, sleep, play and thrive in private homes and in residential neighborhoods with their human owners and families.
It should be noted that Melanie does not use yelling, violence or treat bribes to accomplish the successful results she achieves. So, whether choosing a private session at your own home after which you, yourself, condition, exercise and train your dog the way it is comprehensively shown to you during your session or whether choosing to send your best friend to one of Melanie's Residential Board & Train Programs, respectful behavior, obedience, good manners, non-fearful behavior and friendly interspecies relations will be the results. This applies to dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds and mixes of breeds.
Unless there is a brain tumor, brain damage or a physical impairment of that nature, there is no such thing as not being able to teach an old dog new tricks and no such thing as not being able to tame an old dog’s behavior issues even if they have been in place for years.
